"Paging Dr. Octopus!"
"Paging Dr. Octopus!"
At least that's what our pediatric patients call us because the cupping marks look like a hug from an octopus!
For my adult patients, cupping is my bad ass treatment!!
If you have heard of cupping and want to see if this treatment is right for you, read on!
What is cupping therapy?
Cupping is an ancient healing technique that’s kind of like a reverse massage. Instead of pressing down on muscles, special cups create suction that gently lifts the skin and underlying tissue. This helps improve circulation, release tension, and encourage the body’s natural healing process.
The cups can stay in one spot or be moved around, depending on what your body needs. At our clinic, we offer both traditional fire cupping—which uses heat to create suction inside glass cups—and modern suction cupping, which uses plastic suction cups instead of a flame.
Both feel great and leave you with that signature "I just had something amazing done" sensation (and sometimes a few temporary badass marks to prove it!).
Why use cupping therapy?
Most folks have heard of cupping thanks to athletes using it for muscle recovery—but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Cupping can also be incredibly helpful for things like seasonal allergies, colds, facials and even digestive issues.
Many parents bring their kids in for cupping during cold and flu season as a gentle, preventative boost to help keep sniffles at bay. It’s a natural, drug-free way to support your system.
What about cupping marks?
Ah yes—the famous cupping marks! They look a bit like bruises, but they don’t feel like them. Most people say cupping feels like a deep tissue massage, and the marks are actually a sign that healing is in progress. They typically fade within a few days, though in some cases they can last up to two weeks.
Either way, it’s nothing to worry about, and many people feel immediate relief after a session.

Introducing Dr. Caitlin
Hi, I’m Dr. Caitlin Bree Kennedy, a licensed acupuncturist with a doctorate in acupuncture and a background in psychology from Hofstra University. I’ve been practicing since 2016 and also have experience as an advanced emergency medical technician and former rescue captain in my local fire department.
My journey into acupuncture began at 17 after a cancer diagnosis, and it completely changed how I understood healing. I now combine my western and eastern medical training, clinical experience, and passion for natural, holistic care to help patients feel better—physically and emotionally—in a way that’s effective, personal, and side-effect free.
